About Us

The Magic City Drive-In was built and opened by Vince Lauter (West Theatre) and Lou Ratener (Montrose Drive-In) in 1953 as a single screen drive-in.

The city of Barberton aquired the "Magic City" nickname due to its industrial growth during that age, and the drive-in was later named the same.

The first features were the 1949 western “South of St. Louis” with Joel McCrea, Alexis Smith and Zachary Scott and the 1949 comedy “Master Minds” with Leo Gorcey and the Bowery Boys.

A second screen was added in the mid seventies. Total capacity is 700 cars. Both screens face west. Now has digital projection for both screens.
